What Are Scrubber Gas Washing Systems (Wet Scrubber)?

Scrubber systems are gas washing units that clean harmful gases, vapors, and fine particles released from industrial facilities before they are emitted into the environment through the air. They are especially used in applications where acidic, corrosive, or toxic gases need to be removed from the atmosphere.

These systems are also referred to as wet scrubbers, gas scrubbers, or wet gas washing systems. Their operating principle is based on bringing contaminated gases into contact with a liquid (usually water or a chemical solution), allowing pollutants to dissolve or react chemically.

⚙️ How Do Scrubber Systems Work?

In wet scrubber systems, the dirty gas stream is brought into contact with a scrubbing liquid inside a specially designed body. During this contact, harmful components in the gas are absorbed, neutralized, or captured by the liquid.

Basic process steps:

  • Polluted gas enters through the scrubber inlet.

  • Inside, the gas comes into contact with the scrubbing liquid (water or chemical solution).

  • Pollutants are dissolved in the liquid or enter into chemical reactions.

  • Clean gas is discharged to the atmosphere through the system outlet.

  • The used scrubbing liquid is automatically treated or replaced when necessary.

Scrubber Gas Scrubber Description

The contaminated gas is drawn in by an aspirator (fan) and channelled through the gas scrubbing tower from bottom to top. At the same time, the special solution in the lower chamber of the tower is sprayed out of the tower from top to bottom using nozzles. Fillers and media are used to bring the solution into contact with the gas. The fillers in the tower provide a large surface area for the contaminated gas to react with the solution. The liquid droplets carried along by the gas flow are collected by a droplet catcher at the top of the tower. The unwanted gas concentration is discharged into the atmosphere below the limit values and odourless. Clean air is released into the atmosphere.
